A Historical View of Prairie View

Did you know that between the Reconstruction of the Civil War Prairie Views’ name has changed at least 8 times?

Prairie View is the 2^nd oldest institution of higher learning in the state of TX. Prairie View was established to give blacks the same opportunity to receive a college education as whites.

On March 11,1878 Prairie View State Normal & Industrial College was opened to Educate the Black community. It wasn’t until August 27,1976 the name PV State Normal &Industrial  College was changed to Prairie View A&M University . PV then became an independent unit of Texas A&M University system.

There is a motto “Prairie View Produces Productive People!” This statement is more than encouragement, it is also a reminder of ones own goal. While studying at Prairie View A&M University. During my college experience I have experienced many obstacles along with learning how to survive on my own. I, Camille Henderson am a proud Prairie View panther.
